2011 Memorial Scholarship Recipients

Micah Adcock

Marisa Hathcock-Spalding Memorial Scholarship

Micah is a senior at West Plains High School. Micah's parents are Bryan and Christine Adcock. Micah plans on attending Truman State University in Kirksville, MO where she will obtain a degree in Biology-Pre-dentistry. Micah plans to go on to dental school and become a pediatric dentist. She would like to use these skills to help underserved children.

Chandler Connell

Cynthia Holloway-Coatney Memorial Scholarship

Chandler is a senior at Norwood High School. He is the son of Brian and Stephanie Connell. Chandler plans on attending Kettering University in Flint, MI to study Mechanical Engineering with Automotive emphasis. After gaining a degree, Chandler will start his own firm in cooperation with several other engineers of various disciplines, specializing in environmentally responsible, high performance power-train systems. Once the company is established, it will expand to offer environmentally responsible solutions to the paint and chemical markets as well as the residential and commercial building sectors.

Kayla Elam

Julie McGoldrick Memorial Scholarship

Kayla Elam of West Plains, MO is the daughter of Gerry and Linda Elam also of West Plains. Kayla has attended West Plains High School for the past four years where she has been active with the Speech and Debate Team, Ridgerunner (the national award winning school magazine), National Honor Society, and Beta Club. She was the Mayor of her city at Girls State and she was elected to represent Missouri at Girls Nation where she met with 97 other girls from across the nation (two being selected as Senators from each state excluding Hawaii). This opportunity lead to Kayla meeting with President Obama in the White House and meeting with her Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill where she discussed the bill she co-authored with her fellow Missouri Girls Nation Senator. This fall, Kayla will pursue her love of communication, business, and fashion by working towards a dual major in Journalism and International Business. As of mid-March, Kayla is awaiting the acceptance of one more college before she chooses where she will attend next fall, but she has already been accepted to University of Missouri-Columbia's Journalism School and Honors College, New York University, and the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan as well as being selected for their Presidential Scholar's Program. It has been her dream to move to Manhattan and become Editor-in-Chief of Harper's Bazaar magazine since middle school, where she can share her love of communication and art and advocate their vital importance.

Jesse Hadley

Kyle Gilliam Memorial Scholarship

Jesse is the son of Jeff and Vickie Hadley. He attends West Plains High School and has been accepted to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University in the fall. While there, he plans to pursue a doctorate of pharmacy degree while pursuing his passion for music. He has also been accepted into the marching and symphonic band programs. During high school, Jesse performed in the high school band, choir, and various other music groups as well as local music groups such as the MSU Community Band and Renee Wood's After Hours Big Band.

Jordon Hale

Christel AraSmith-Chester Memorial Scholarship

Jordon Hale is the daughter of Brian and Rebecca Hinton. She is currently attending Couch High School in Myrtle, MO. After high school Jordon will attend Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, MO and pursue a degree in Nursing.

Bryan Christopher Kaps

Julie Douglass Memorial Scholarship

Bryan is a senior at Mountain Grove High School. His parents are Martin and Mary Beth Kaps. Bryan plans on attending the U.S. Naval Academy upon graduation and will study to become a Chemical Engineer. Bryan's goal is to become an officer in the U.S. Navy and be on a ship.

John Prewitt

Tyler Simer Memorial Scholarship

John is in his second year at Washington University in St. Louis, MO where he is pursuing a degree in Biology. His parents are the late Dr. Gary Prewitt and Jo Beth Prewitt. While in college he has volunteered in many different ways including helping at an inner city school, building a home for Habitat for Humanity, and hosting prospective students from other states.

Allisha Shanks

Megan Spence Memorial Scholarship

Allisha Shanks is the daughter of Wendy Shelton and Ryan Shanks. She currently attends Willow Springs High School and will attend Missouri State University in Springfield in the fall where she will pursue a degree in Nursing.
